How to get your first Audible Audiobook

Since Lichgates has now been produced as an audiobook, I’ve had a lot of people ask me how audiobooks work. I’m not sure if you’re new to audiobooks, too. (I sure was before this experience.)

Lichgates is available on Audible, an Amazon company. If you’ve never used Audible before, there are just a few easy steps to getting your audiobook up and running. I thought I’d give you a peek behind the curtain because I LOVE how this service works.

How does Audible work?

There are two ways to get started on Audible.

The first way is to just buy the audiobook outright. All you have to do is go to the page and click on the “Add to Cart” button and continue through the checkout.

This is the pricey method. I found a better option for you.

The second way to get started is through AudibleListener. This program is a little like Amazon’s KU ebook subscriber program, but with a few differences.

With AudibleListener you can:

  • Own all the books you buy & get great discounts available only to members.
  • Get your first book free with 30-day trial.
  • Get your choice of 1 book per month for a monthly fee of $14.95. (This seems like a lot, but most full-length novels are at least $20 on Audible. Plus you can cancel before the first charge even comes up if you find out Audiobooks aren’t your thing.)
  • Cancel anytime.
  • Exchange books you don’t like. How cool is that??
  • Keep all your audiobooks, even if you cancel. Again, awesome.
  • Get 30% off all other books you want to buy. Because discounts ROCK.

So if you’re one of those people who loves to read but never has the time, listen to audiobooks — during your commute, while washing dishes, during a morning run or during any activity where you would normally listen to music.

You can even make it a group activity and listen to the book with family before bed.

How do you get Audible onto your device?

Audible has an app for your phone, your tablet, your computer, and for most versions of the Kindle. It’s super easy to download and just like your Kindle eBooks, Audible will sync your audiobooks across your devices so that you can listen on your computer and then switch to your phone for your road trip or drive to work.

To download an app, just head to this Audible page.

Why do I love Audiobooks?

Audiobooks breathe fresh life into a novel. It’s fantastic to stare at a page (or screen) and hallucinate vividly for a few hours (I kid, I kid), but it’s even more fun to listen to someone else read the story to you. You discover a new side of the tale, connect with characters differently, and you can actually hear the story through the author-approved voice of the series.

Plus, you can take your books with you in the car and to your workouts. Now you can have book hangovers twice as often. Win!

I recommend you check out AudibleListener to get the most for your money. And because I hook you up in all the best ways, you can try it free for 30 days. Here’s a 5 minute sample of the Lichgates audiobook for you to test out.
