Kirstin Pulioff stops by to talk about inspiration and her writing journey.
“If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way; if you don’t, you’ll find an excuse.” – Frank Banks
Quotes like this are intended to inspire and drive a person to succeed. In their simplicity they give direction to achieving a goal and in their complexity they make you take a closer look at your true intentions.
For me this reminds me of my beginning. You see, I wrote my book, The Escape of Princess Madeline on my lunch breaks at an office job. That was perhaps the most productive half hour of my day, and certainly the most rewarding. In those 30 minutes, I was able to unleash my mind and escape to a land of princesses, dreams, and happy endings. It wasn’t much, but it was my way.
Now, there is no break room for me to escape to, instead, I retreat into the confines of the writer’s closet. No, that is not a cute name for an office, den, or writers nook… it is literally my closet.
I realized early in my writing career that I didn’t need much… all I needed was to write. To allow those voices in my head to be heard, to let those movies of my mind be played in the pages of a book. Two write of experiences and relationships, and lessons that I have learned, or that I still need to learn.
It does not matter where you write, it just matters that you do. Whether it is at a lunch break, an office, or the literary closet, get your vision out there and get those words down. If it is important to you, make the time, not excuses. Everything starts with a first step.
